Upcycled Easter Basket
This sweet Easter basket makes the most of the Australian Autumn by pairing seasonal flowers with the rustic charm of jute string. At the end of Summer when gardens are dried and the harvest season is upon us, all manner of plants can be found with hardy flowers, dried blooms and seed pods still attached. Take a long walk outside and enjoy the cool of the season whilst you collect some goodies to make this cute upcycled basket to use as a table centrepiece or gift.
Step 1: Gather your materials
For this project you will need:
- Permanent Mini Glue Dots
- Glue Lines
- A clean and dried strawberry punnet
- Jute String
- Fresh or dried seasonal flowers
- Tissue paper
- Easter Eggs
Step 2: Cover the base
Place glue lines at regular intervals around the strawberry punnet. Starting at the bottom, firmly wind the jute string around the plastic container, pressing firmly into the glue lines as you go. Continue until all sides a completely covered. Cut the string at the top and secure with a Glue Dots Mini Dot.
Step 3: Make a handle
Cut three pieces of string the same length and tie three strands of string together at one end. Plait the handle until it is the desired length and finish with a second knot at the end. Trim off excess string and secure to the inside of the basket with glue lines.
Step 4: Finish the basket rim with flowers
Use Glue Dots Mini Dots to attached flowers to the inside rim of the plastic pot. Press each stem firmly to secure with a Glue dot and work your way around until the rim of the basket is covered.
Step 5: Line the interior
Use tissue paper to line the inside of the basket. The bottom can be packed out with additional scrunched paper for a fuller look if you want to use your basket for a table centrepiece.
Step 6: Fill with eggs
Finish your basket by filling with your favourite Easter eggs. We have used candy covered speckled eggs for a natural look.
